             There is no doubt that TV has taken off during the last twenty years: most people cannot imagine their lives without that gadget, as it has become one of the most important sources of entertainment and information. In spite of that, TV gives rise to a lot of heated debate, as many people find many disadvantages to it.

            Firstly, one of the most important disadvantages is that watching TV is a very passive activity. Although reading could also be considered passive, as no physical movement is involved, in it there is much more intellectual activity, as the reader has to interpret, understand and imagine what they read. TV presents everything already processed, so viewers just have to watch and they do not need so much concentration. What is more, as it is quite relaxing, people watch too much TV and they stop doing other activities which are more active, such as sports, or playing musical instruments.

             Secondly,on one hand many people also claim that the main problem with TV today is the lack of quality of the programs, which contain a lot of violence and can be a bad influence for young viewers.There has been overwhelming evidence that suggest viewing violent and aggressive behavior on television, does in deed directly affect children. Children are great imitators. Imaginary play and modeling their . Many parents believe that children are not able to tell the difference between fact and fiction, so they may interpret that everything that is shown on TV is correct, while adults perfectly know that is not true. 
          on the another, hand Some people will argue that children actually learn morals and life lesson from some violence on television. In shows such as the good guys always win and the bad guys are always punished. This idea helps children realize that bad acts are punishable. They will more often identify with the heroes in the story, and they themselves will aspire to be one of the good guys .

           To conclude, TV is a form of entertainment which has become very popular,   and which has many supporters, but also many people who are against it. In my opinion, TV can be a useful gadget to get information from and to be entertained, as long as the programs and content are appropriate. I believe that, although there is some good content to it, most of the programs show negative stereotypes for people to follow, and that is something that has to change. As regards the first disadvantage mentioned, I believe that watching TV is not a totally negative activity, as long as we can control how much time we spend doing it. But whether it is positive or negative, everybody agrees on the fact that television has dramatically changed our world, and it will continue to do so.
